Bishop Stephen commissions The Revd Stuart Batten in his new role

Posted: 05 September 2014

The Revd Stuart Batten, formerly Assistant Director of Ordinands, was licensed by Bishop Stephen to his new post as Priest in Charge at Holy Trinity Church, Barkingside this week. Stuart, along-with his wife, Karen, and their children, Megan, Elijah, Joseph and Austin, were welcomed by members of the community, including: local Councillors, the Mayor, the Area Dean - The Revd Paul Harcourt, Clergy from the deanery of Redbridge, and members of neighbouring churches. Also supporting Stuart and Karen were parishioners from their previous churches, St. Bartholomew, Wickham Bishops and St. Nicholas, Little Braxted. The Bishop, hearing that a coach party had arrived from Stuart's former parishes, explained to the congregation that there were two reasons why a coach arrives for such a service, 'either to check you have really gone! or beacuse you were deeply loved'; at which point  a loud 'yes' was heard from the congregation!
