On Sunday 19th May Bishop Stephen will be starting his programme for 2019 with a visit to the Essex coast around Brightlingsea and Mersea Island.
The journey starts at Alresford Station at 08:50, this allows participants to get a train from Colchester at 08:37. The mainland element of the journey will take Bishop to Brightlingsea.
En route, he will visit the ruined church of St Peters (9.00) and Thorrington Mill (09:49) then bless the Lych Gate at All Saints' (10:25) and visit Sparklers Sunday School (11:00) before taking the noon boat to Mersea .
Upon arrival at Mersea Island (12.15) Bishop Stephen will walk across the Island. With a lunch picnic in the grounds of East Mersea Hall (1.15pm). Prior to this Prayers will be said at nearby St Edmunds. The journey will continue to St Peter & St Paul West Mersea for prayers at around 3.30pm. Bishop Stephen will say farewell to the Island by walking over The Strood (approx. 4.50pm). Those travelling back to Colchester by bus can catch the 64b bus from West Mersea at 4.40pm.
The times given are the predicted times of Bishop Stephen being at a location. He can arrived up to 20 min’s earlier but will not depart before any specific event has taken place at the time given.
Those wishing to join the journey on Mersea should note that high tide is at 1:26 pm and participants should check prior to visiting as to the height of the tide that day.
